Let’s face it, we’ve all contemplated starting a whole new life with our best of friends and have the adventure with them. Well, a little town in Southern Italy might just provide you with that opportunity.
The town of Bisaccia located in the Campania region of Italy is selling homes for as little as $1.50. The goal of this endeavour is to create a new and fresh community since the town has been facing a steady population decline in recent years after several earthquakes in the 70s and 80s left some areas destroyed and others completely abandoned.
The town’s deputy mayor, Francesco Tartaglia, explained that "the abandoned [area] spreads throughout the most ancient part of the village. Forsaken houses are clustered together, one next to the other along the same roads. Some even share a common entrance.” That’s why they are keen to attract friendship groups and families who will “breathe fresh life” into the village.
The only catch is that you will need to commit to funding and doing the necessary renovations on the homes yourself, but the upside is that there is no time frame or minimum spending amount set as long as the work is completed.
This isn’t the first time such a unique opportunity was offered in Italy in order to revive a dwindling community. Last year, the town of Cammarata in Sicily made a similar offer to adventurers looking for a fresh start and continues to do so.
