Taking a dip in the Nile is a staple Aswan adventure. Who goes there without venturing into the Nile from one of the smaller islands? Apparently, we can't do that anymore. There've been far too many drowning incidents in Aswan's neck of the Nile, leading authorities to implement strict orders to completely ban swimming in the Nile River. The decision comes after several people had recently lost their lives swimming in the river.
Think you can sneak in a quick dip and get away with it? Nope. Patrols will be circling the area, stopping people from getting into the water. Aswan's Governor suggested swimming pools in local sports clubs as a safer alternative to swimming in the Nile, though that doesn't quite scream "welcome tourists!"
